What is an HTML Formatter?
An HTML Formatter turns compressed or messy HTML source into readable, consistently indented code. It helps developers review fragments, full documents, comments, nested elements, and embedded style or script blocks without sending the code to a server.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to common questions about using this tool.
Does the HTML Formatter upload my code? +
No. HTML formatting runs locally in your browser during normal use. The code is not sent to a formatter API or stored by PotatoTools.
Can it format full HTML documents? +
Yes. You can format fragments and complete HTML documents, including common document tags, comments, nested elements, and DOCTYPE.
What happens to script and style blocks? +
The formatter uses Prettier with the required local plugins so common embedded JavaScript and CSS can be formatted with the HTML source.
Can I copy or download the formatted HTML? +
Yes. After formatting succeeds, you can copy the exact formatted HTML or download it as an .html file.
Does this tool preview or run HTML? +
No. The output is shown as escaped highlighted source code only. It does not render submitted HTML as a live page.
Why did invalid HTML still format? +
Prettier can tolerate and normalize some imperfect HTML. When the parser throws an error, the tool shows a compact message and clears the result.
